2 Timothy 2:15 - Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needed not to be ashamed.
Our Vision is to extend Christ-centered educational service to other students in the BBC Church, the Community and the City.
The mission of the W.D. Richardson Memorial Scholarship is to support Blueridge Baptist Church in imparting the truth of God's word, cultivate character, build faith, inspire service, and provide scholarship assistance to current eligible graduating students, who are members of Blueridge Baptist Church. Students must actively pursue a college education, or training on a full/part time basis, and meet the "Eligibility Criteria" for the scholarship award as set forth in the W. D. Richardson Scholarship application.
To extend Christ-centered educational services to other students in the BBC Church, the Community, and the City.
The W.D. Richardson Scholarship was established in 2002. A donation provided to Blueridge Baptist Church from the family of the family of the late Pastor Emeritus, Wilson Duke Richardson Sr., Gladys S. Crawford Richardson (wife), Wilson Duke Richardson Jr. (son) and Mary Richardson Page, daughter.
The Blueridge Baptist Church committee members were Rev. Ceola Curley, Pastor, Bro Clarence Simmons, Ima Jean Duke, Lilly Lacy and Herman Crawford. The Board of Trustees members were Sammy Lacy, Roy Duke, Rudolph Cline, Harold Dickey, Patsy Jenkins and Herman Crawford.
They all worked diligently together to design a scholarship committee from members of the church. Together in prayer and diligently seeking God's word, the W.D. Richardson Memorial Scholarship Committee was created. In 2003 the first graduating recipients were provided scholarships. Their action s demonstrated what faith in Christ produce.
Today the W.D. Richardson Memorial Scholarship Committee continues in providing scholarships each ear for the education of students to become Christ-like leaders in the church, schools, communities, families and vocations.
We believed knowing Jesus Christ and choosing to serve Him as Lord are essential for redemption and regeneration, and that this choice is necessary for human beings to realize their purpose and full potential. (Col. 1:15-20: Heb, 1:1-3; Rom. 3:21-24; Cor. 5:17-21; prov. 3:5-6)
We acknowledge the truth and authority of scripture and hold it to be foundational. As such, we strive to teach all subjects from a biblical worldview, based firmly in the revelation of God's Word (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1: 19-21; Matt. 4: 4,7,10; 2 Tim. 4:2).
We believe in cultivating students to be humble servant leaders preparing them to impact others through selfless service. Becoming such a leader requires a firm identity in Christ, an understanding of culture and development of a unique, compelling voice (John 13:12-15; Mark 10:45; Phil. 2:3-11; 2 Cor. 3:2-3).
We inspire spiritual and academic growth, and confidence in students as we train them throughout the learning process to think wisely, communicate effectively, develop character, and value scholarship (Prov. 9:10; Rom. 12:2; Matt. 22:37; 1 Kings 4:29-34).
We invite families into the Christian community, in which we strive to live with integrity, resolve disputes biblically, hold each other accountable in love, and build deep, meaningful relationships, as we work together to raise the next generation for Christ (Heb. 10: 23-25; 1 Thess. 2:8; Col. 1:28-29; Matt. 18:15-17).
We embrace the biblical call to "make disciples." This includes teaching biblical truth, sharing the love of Jesus, training students and providing opportunities for them to mentor younger students, and encourage one another in prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit to take the next step in our journey (Matt. 28: 18-20; 2 Tim. 2:2; Mark 12: 28-31; 1 Cor. 15 3-8).
